While an official soundtrack release for “Her” doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen anytime soon—Spike Jonze recently said that the Oscar-nominated score by Arcade Fire might not see a retail shelf—the Oscar-nominated song is going to be available to own. Karen O‘s lovely, low key “The Moon Song” is getting an EP release, with a pretty sweet little extra.
Rolling Stone has debuted an alternate version of the song featuring Vampire Weekend‘s Ezra Koening stepping in for guest vocal duties. The duet on the song that is still very much what you remember, just with a bit more sheen, and an added voice of melancholy in the mix. And for Karen O, it was a completion of her vision. “I wrote the song as a duet,” she explained. “I was really excited at the prospect of getting to record it with a male vocalist. Ezra was super cool and open, he slipped into character like a champ and damn he’s got the goods.”
“The Moon Song” EP hits iTunes this week. Again, no word on a soundtrack, but you can find a list of the songs from “Her” right here.
