We’re a couple of weeks away from the release of “Pacific Rim” and the marketing blitz, as always, has gone into overdrive. Not based on any preexisting property and a cast devoid of household names, the Guillermo del Toro-helmed tentpole is an expensive gamble that Warner Bros. is hoping pays off. And right now, the signs aren’t good with Variety reporting that tracking right now is “disappointing,” and indicating that “Grown Ups 2” will beat it on opening weekend. Ouch. So, a new extended TV spot and a batch of new images have dropped online to try and get you into the theater.
Continuing the studio’s trend as of late, Warner Bros. premiered a two-minute TV spot — really more of a trailer — for the kajiu-vs-robots film over on its Facebook page. While not skimping on the CG whiz-bang action, the trailer drops the BRAAMS and instead goes for something a little heavier on mood with all sound effects dropping out in favor for the shallow breathing of a Jaeger pilot. We also hear a little more of Idris Elba’s speech to the pilots.
Though this isn’t del Toro’s first time in Hollywood, it’s his first time with a project of this scope and we hope it finally proves to be the unequivocal box-office smash that he needs to finally get “At The Mountains Of Madness” off the ground once and for all. Check out the TV spot below as well as a slew of new stills from the film, and take a listen to the riff rockin’ title theme by composer Ramin Djawadi featuring the stylings of Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello courtesy of Rolling Stone.
