The 74th Locarno Film Festival will take place in person from August 4 to August 14 in Locarno, Switzerland, and the festival’s film lineup has been announced via The Hollywood Reporter. The Swiss event was founded back in 1946 and is one of the longest-running film festivals in the world.
Studio pics at the Piazza Grande lineup will include Ferdinando Cito Filomarino’s thriller “Beckett” that features performances from John David Washington and Alicia Vikander, Shawn Levy‘s video game adventure film “Free Guy” led by Ryan Reynolds and Jodie Comer, John Swab’s actioner “Ida Red” starring Melissa Leo, and Liesl Tommy’s biopic “Respect” starring Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson.

International films at the Piazza Grande consist of Stefan Ruzowitzky’s (“The Counterfeiters“) “Hinterland,” Stefan Jäger’s “Monte Verità,” Bassel Ghandour’s “The Alleys,” Alessandro Rak’s animated film “Yaya e Lennie – The Walking Liberty,” Aurélie Saada‘s directorial debut “Rose,” Gaspar Noé‘s “Vortex,” and Kim Ji-hoon’s “Sinkhole.”

The festival’s main arthouse selection, Concorso Internazionale, will feature 17 world premieres, some of those are Abel Ferrara’s “Zeros & Ones” starring Ethan Hawke, Natalya Kudryashova‘s “Gerda,” Srdjan Dragojević’s “Nebesa/Heaven’s Above,” and Lorenz Merz‘s “Soul of A Beast.”

It’ll be interesting to see if we’ll get some early breakouts from the festival that could become major awards contenders. Some of the international projects could very well end up landing on Oscar prediction lists for Best International Feature Film, but only time will tell and we’ll likely get a preview of the quality of the lineup once reviews start trickling in.
