Ahead of the premiere of the second season of “Locke & Key” in October of last year, Netflix announced that the show’s third and final season had been commissioned. While fans may be disappointed that the show’s upcoming season marks its end, they can be reassured by the fact that the termination of the show is on the creator’s terms. Via an Instagram post, co-creators Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill wrote, “Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion…As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use.”

The Locke family, consisting of Tyler (Connor Jessup), Kinsey (Emilia Jones), Bode (Jackson Robert Scott), Nina (Darby Stanchfield), and Duncan (Aaron Ashmore), all return for season three. They are joined by Petrice Jones, Brendan Hines, and Kevin Durand, returning as Scot, Josh, and Frederick, respectively.
While there is no official synopsis for the show’s final season as of yet, Cuse and Averill have hinted at its contents. Speaking to Collider, Cuse, and Averill explained that season three will focus “much more heavily on the family” and that they’ll “face the greatest threat they’ve had to face yet…That really bonds them in a way that we’ve never seen before. I can’t say more than that…Part of our challenge, that we happily take on is that every season, we need to outdo the season before it. It’s a challenge, but it’s a fun one, and I think we’ve been able to do that.”
“Locke & Key” new trailer premiered during Netflix’s Geeked Week today. The final season is due August 10 on Netflix; take a look below.
