Is everyone ready to venture back to Middle-earth? Well, Amazon sure hopes so. But don’t worry, you don’t have to be excited just yet, as the Prime Video release of the “Lord of the Rings” TV series is still more than a year away.
According to the official Twitter account for Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings,” the series has an official release date of September 2, 2022. And though there’s a first-look image, there’s not a whole lot to see, as it’s a wide landscape view that fans will likely analyze for quite a while. But if there’s one thing to say about the image, it’s that it definitely looks like something that could have appeared in Peter Jackson’s film series. And that’s probably exactly what fans are hoping for.

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding the TV adaptation of “Lord of the Rings” since it was announced years ago. At the time, news broke that Amazon was spending a reported $1 billion to land the rights to the J.R. Tolkien epic for a planned TV series. It was also reported that part of the deal was a two-season guarantee, leading fans to be incredibly excited about what was being cooked up.
We don’t know a whole lot about the series, other than it’s a prequel that takes place a long, long time before the hobbits took to the One Ring to Mordor. We also know it has an absolutely massive cast and some solid directors attached. J.A. Bayona leads the filmmaking trio that also includes Wayne Che Ip and Charlotte Brändström.
