As seen in the trailer for the film, “Love Spreads” is about the friction that arises after a band is struggling to record a new record after signing a huge deal with a label. The lead singer/songwriter (Shawkat) then is caught off guard when the label brings in another musician (Gonzales) to help with the process.

Joining Shawkat and Gonzales in the cast are Chanel Cresswell, Nick Helm, Tara Lee, Dolly Wells, Charlotte Jo Hanbury, and Ruth Ollman. “Love Spreads” comes from director Jamie Adams. The filmmaker is probably best known for his work on features such as “Black Mountain Poets” and “Wild Honey Pie.”

Here’s the synopsis:

A film about the second album difficulties being experienced by a popular new girl band, whose lead singer has a creative block, where another band member tries to inject her own writing style and songs and walks out when under-appreciated, and their long-suffering manager is abused by both the band and the record label in equal measure, until a new fresh voice turns up to being the remaining band members back together, whereupon a new album is recorded.
