Just when you think you know what filmmaker Luca Guadagnino is up to, he suddenly throws you a curveball. While promoting last year’s “Suspiria,” it appeared that he was hoping to get “Call Me By Your Name 2” off the ground. Then suddenly, he’s directing an HBO miniseries “We Are Who We Are.” Now, just when you think things have died down, as he’s currently in production on that series, we now see a report that the award-winning director is in talks to direct “Lord of the Flies.”
According to Variety, Warner Bros. is in talks with Guadagnino to helm an adaptation of the famous novel “Lord of the Flies.” There’s no script yet, but the film could be the next project the filmmaker works on after he finishes production on the aforementioned HBO miniseries.
The last anything about “Lord of the Flies” was talked about was over a year ago, when it was announced that WB acquired the rights to the famous story of school kids that are deserted on an island and have to come up with some sort of society. At the time, it was revealed that the studio was interested in making the film about an all-girls school that was on the island. However, it appears that if Guadagnino is attached, the film will retain its original story and focus on kids from an all-boys school.
As mentioned, the filmmaker is currently in production on his HBO series. But earlier this year, Guadagnino released a short film titled “The Staggering Girl,” which starred Julianne Moore, at Cannes. He still likes to talk about a sequel to his Oscar-nominated film “Call Me By Your Name,” but that seems to be firmly on the backburner.
There’s no release date targeted for “Lord of the Flies.” It’s still unclear if Guadagnino will make this his next project. But either way, if the filmmaker is attached, we’ll be very interested to see what he does with movie.
