There will always be an influx for animated features in the modern film landscape. 2D, 3D, stop-motion, or anywhere else on the spectrum. Kids and adults equally look around, from the most iconic animation houses like Disney and Dreamworks, to up-and-coming indie animators on television or YouTube, in order to get their fix of illustration. “Luck,” from Apple Original Films and Skydance Animation, will soon be streaming through Apple TV+. The first animated film from Skydance, its first trailer has arrived.
Involved with the production side of the film is executive producer John Lasseter of Pixar fame. This is Lasseter’s first new project following sexual misconduct claims at the famed animation studio, and the first film in a controversial deal with Skydance Animation for Lasseter to develop future projects. If the film sounds familiar in this context, actress Emma Thompson left the project because of Lasseter’s involvement, and even penned an open letter to Skydance Animation to reconsider keeping the producer aboard.
Directing “Luck” is Peggy Holmes, who previously directed the Tinker Bell features “Secret of the Wings” and “The Pirate Fairy” for Disney. Writing the film is duo Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, who wrote the “Kung Fu Panda” trilogy and “Trolls” films for Dreamworks, and Kiel Murray, who wrote, “Cars” and “Cars 3” for Pixar. With this team and an ensemble cast of voice actors, animation fans can see if the trailer piques their interest.
