We’ve officially reached the point where we will become inundated with all things “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Trailers and TV spots will come out. People will analyze and speculate. Stars will get barraged with questions they can’t answer. People will speculate further. And on and on and on. In the latest bit of ‘The Last Jedi’ speculation, everyone was convinced that Luke was going to the Dark Side. Fear not! It’s all just misdirection.

According to ComingSoon, who got the quote from Disney Rewards Insider, Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, has put to rest any rumors that everyone’s favorite Jedi is following in his dad’s footsteps. “Luke has lost confidence in his ability to make good choices,” said Hamill. “It haunts him to the core. But he hasn’t gone to the dark side. This isn’t an evil version of him. But it’s still an incarnation of the character I never expected. It has pulled me out of my comfort zone. It’s a real challenge.”
Luke’s dark turn has been discussed by “Star Wars” fans for months since the first real trailer for ‘The Last Jedi’ was released. In the footage seen so far, Luke has been adorned in very dark clothing, reminding fans of Anakin’s style towards the end of the prequels. He also has been saying things about ending the Jedi and not wanting to train Rey. Out of context, as trailers are, these things can be viewed as a change in character for Luke. But apparently, he’s just getting older and needs to get his groove back, so to speak.
Honestly, it’s hard to believe that Disney would do anything to tarnish the legacy of the “Big 3” actors from the Original Trilogy. Harrison Ford was given a quality send-off in ‘The Force Awakens,’ and it appears that Disney is going out of their way to make sure that Carrie Fisher is given her due in the upcoming film. There’s no way that Mark Hamill will do anything in the film except be the Luke everyone knows and love, just with more gray hair.
