Just when you thought one revisionist take on the classic Herman Melville tale “Moby Dick” wasn’t enough, another project looking to retell the tale has emerged from the depth not unlike its titular character. While “We Need To Talk About Kevin” filmmaker Lynne Ramsay will be taking us to space for "Mobius," her take on “Moby Dick,” it looks like M. Night Shyamalan is set to take another venture to the small screen with his own adventures of Captain Ahab.
It was just a short while back when we found out Shyamalan would be bringing his prospective series “Proof” to Syfy, and now word comes that NBC has ordered a pilot for his potential “Moby Dick” series. “Eagle Eye” writer John Glenn will be joining Shyamalan for the drama entitled “Lost Horizon,” with the project coming from Sony Pictures TV and Shyamalan’s Blinding Edge Pictures. As with anything involving Shyamalan, the project is being kept tightly under wraps, but reports state that it will center on a small fishing village on the East Coast. It will apparently deal with the obsession of the unknown, and themes that are scattered throughout Shyamalan’s films. He’s attached to direct the potential pilot, which will be written by Glenn.
It’s nice to see Shyamalan open himself up to other influences like Glenn and we genuinely hope these projects could potentially launch a new chapter for the gifted filmmaker who’s had nothing but a storied series of diminishing returns since his big hit “The Sixth Sense” all the way back in 1998. It’s going to be a treat to see how this project shapes up, and how Shyamalan employs his genre sensibilities on television. [Deadline]
