Mackenzie Davis Joins Steve Carrell & Rose Byrne In Jon Stewart's Political Comedy 'Irresistible'

After breakout roles in “Black Mirror,” “Halt and Catch Fire,” and last year’s “Tully,” Mackenzie Davis is expected to have a big year ahead of her. The biggest role of her career lies ahead, as she’s set to star in the upcoming “Terminator: Dark Fate,” which hits theaters in November. And then after that, she’s ditching the robots for politics and comedy, as Davis has signed on to co-star in Jon Stewart’s next directorial outing.

Deadline is reporting that Davis has signed on to star in “Irresistible.” The political comedy (would you expect anything less from Stewart?) follows a political strategist who is attempting to help a man win a mayoral race in a small town in Wisconsin. Davis joins a cast that includes Steve Carell, Rose Byrne, and Chris Cooper.

As mentioned, Davis has really seen her star rise in recent years. Film fans will probably recognize her best as the titular character in Jason Reitman’s “Tully,” starring opposite Charlize Theron. In addition to ‘Dark Fate’ and the just-announced “Irresistible,” Davis is set to star in the rom-com “Happiest Season,” playing the love interest of Kristen Stewart.

“Irresistible” marks the second film for Stewart as director. The former “Daily Show” star previously went behind the camera as helmer of the political drama, “Rosewater,” which starred Claire Foy and Gael García Bernal. While the film didn’t necessarily light up the box office, “Rosewater” did earn positive reviews, ensuring that Stewart would get another chance at being a director. This time, he’s leaning more into his comedy background and has brought on a big cast for “Irresistible,” which will likely be a bigger hit than “Rosewater.”

There’s no release date set for the film.
