'Mad Max: Fury Road' Getting The 3D Conversion, As We Put On Our Surprise Face

Speaking at a Samsung event to promote the viability of 3D, actor Nicholas Hoult (“A Single Man”) revealed that his next project, the big budget sequel “Mad Max: Fury Road” would be undergoing a post-production 3D conversion before its planned 2011 release. It’s a major tentpole release coming down the pike in the next couple of years, so we’d be surprised if it weren’t in 3D, really. It’s been a quarter of a decade since the last “Mad Max” and while Warner Bros. trusts that director George Miller’s still got it, they have no problem adding 3D as a safety net to help the film achieve the blockbuster status they are hoping it achieves.

Miller and the studio are fully aware that they’ll be using the deeper visual element, though the film will be shot in regular two dimensions. WB is no doubt eager to avoid the negative press given to “Clash of the Titans” after its last minute conversion, but we bet they’re not too broken-hearted considering that film’s success. “Fury Road” features Hoult co-starring alongside Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Zoe Kravitz and Teresa Palmer and it begins shooting in August, or at least, so they say. Frankly, we’ll believe it when we see set photos.
