Earlier this year, Cary Fukunaga cleared one movie off his growing slate of projects: an adaptation of Stephen King‘s "It." The picture had been moved from Warner Bros. to their more genre oriented shingle New Line, and with it came word they were cutting the budget. Rather than try and recalibrate his vision to work with less money, Fukunaga bailed. But now the project has a new captain.
Andy Muschietti, the helmer behind the 2013 horror hit "Mama" starring Jessica Chastain, has taken over "It." The two-part concept remains intact, though the schedule has been pushed back. Originally slated to shoot in June, a writer is now being sought to punch up the script to mesh with Muschietti’s approach. Meanwhile, the once attached Will Poulter, slated to play young Pennywise, is not involved at the moment, though he could return.
