Mamet Adapatation of 'High and Low' Finally Being Made By Mike Nichols

Mike Nichols, according to Variety, is set to direct the David Mamet penned adaptation of sacred-cow Akira Kurosawa’s “High and Low.” Mamet has been working on the screenplay for nearly 10 years, as it was originally commissioned Martin Scorsese, who will most likely nab a producing credit.

The original Japanese film is a detective thriller about a rich industrialist who faces immense shame when he pays ransom for what he believes to be his son, but is instead the son of his driver. It will not be the first adaptation of a Kurosawa film, but it will presumably be the only one to feature ‘fuck’ every other sentence. Oh, and word to the wise, even if this does sound slightly interesting, a true cinemaphille will passive aggressively insult you for even suggesting that Mamet’s vulgar wordplay and Nichols bland American cinema could ever do the grandmaster justice.
