Tomorrow is the launch of Disney’s brand new streaming service, Disney+. One of the main attractions is the latest original shows that will be on offer, and “The Mandalorian” is a pretty good first offering — created by Jon Favreau, who in the past has been in front and behind the camera, starring as Happy Hogan in the Marvel cinematic universe as well as directing the “live-action” adaptation of The Lion King. This the first-ever live-action series that has been created in the “Star Wars” universe, with “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Rebels,” both being animated series.

This new series has been exciting “Star Wars” when it was first announced, a TV show that puts its focus outside of Jedi’s and Sith’s is something different to what has been shown on the big screen, and even in the animated TV shows. Favreau spoke to Collider during the Disney+ launch event, talking about how they have been able to craft a story over episodes. He said, “nothing has been on TV, other than the holiday special, the idea of telling the story over more than just a couple of hours, told every few years, opens us up to this novelization of story and a return back to the roots.”

He continued, “but the novelization of serialized storytelling is where it really opens up a lot of freedom and opportunity, where we don’t feel like we’re repeating or copying anything else that people have experienced with “Star Wars.”
With a host of guest directors (including “Thor” director Taika Waititi), comes a cast who have felt well embedded into the “Star Wars” universe. Pedro Pascal (“Game Of Thrones”) will play the mysterious Mandalorian, with Gina Carano (“Deadpool”), Carl Weathers (“Predator”), and Kyle Pacek (“Guardians Of The Galaxy”) all set to feature during the eight-episode season.
