There are certain filmmakers that have an unmistakable style. Quentin Tarantino is a pretty obvious example. But when it comes to French cinema, it’s hard to think of a more singular filmmaker than Quentin Dupieux. His films normally take an incredibly strange premise and fill it with enough humor and heart that you can’t help but enjoy every second. And that definitely seems to be the case with his upcoming feature “Mandibles.”

As seen in the new trailer for “Mandibles,” Dupieux’s film follows the story of two men that find themselves in the possession of an absolutely massive insect. And of course, they do what you’d expect them too, they attempt to tame it and train it to make money. Duh. Along the way, they run into two women that introduce them to a new circle of friends and hilarity ensues.
The offbeat comedy stars David Marsais, Grégoire Ludig, Adèle Exarchopoulos, India Hair, Roméo Elvis, and Coralie Russier. As mentioned, “Mandibles” is a film by Quentin Dupieux, who not only wrote and directed the feature but also serves as cinematographer and editor. Obviously, just judging by this trailer, it’s clear the filmmaker is one of the more unique in the industry. And when you look at previous works such as “Rubber” and even last year’s “Deerskin,” it’s clear that Dupieux is definitely off doing his own thing.
“Mandibles” is expected to premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival and will most likely find its way stateside soon, as Dupieux’s films always do. You can watch the new trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
