Mark Webber Confirms Nigel Godrich's Scott Pilgrim Participation: He's Recording Michael Cera's Sex Bob-Omb Band

Why we said this aloud to friends and not in print is beyond us, but when it was was announced that Radiohead/Beck producer Nigel Godrich had picked Metric to appear on the “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” soundtrack, we figured and wrote that he was probably curating the soundtrack picks (which isn’t confirmed, but strongly implied).

However, we did say to friends over dinner recently more specifically: “oh, maybe he’s also recording all the bands who will make the music for Sex Bob-Omb and The Clash At Demonhead (the rival bands in the film, Micheal Cera’s Pilgrim band being the former).

Well, actor Mark Webber, who plays Sex Bob-Omb guitarist and band leader Stephen Stills just let the cat out of the bag today on Godrich’s involvement today on Vulture.

“One bit of new info I can put out there, I hope I can put out there, is I’m going in today to record with Nigel Godrich, which is major. It’s an indication that, on every level of this film, it’s pretty much the best of the best of the best working with it.”

Asked if he’ll sing for Sex Bob-Omb (which his character does in the books, Pilgrim just plays bass) he says, “I’m being given the opportunity to see if I can cut it, and if not we’ll work something else out” (if it doesn’t work out, we’re calling it now: Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew who probably has the perfectly shaggy and raspy voice too)

Pretty much true, that is major and pretty much indicates/strongly suggests that Godrich is recording the music that will be Sex Bob-Omb’s (likely) alt-country rock sounds. But who’s writing the music? Chris Murphy from Sloan? Webber? It’s unclear and unconfirmed so far, but man, choice news (to the left is ‘Pilgrim’ director Edgar Wright’s newest photo tease of what appears to be the actors playing Sex Bob-Omb on a couch, plus their mascot/#1 fan Young Neil).

This does give more credence to our speculation that Metric will make the music for The Clash of Demonhead and Godrich will be producing. Dare to dream? Man, Edgar Wright’s “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World,” is shaping up to be rather excellent in every way.

Webber basically confirms Jason Schwartzman’s appearance in the film, but c’mon, we already knew that by now. Also, apparently Tariq Trotter, a.k.a. Black Thought of the Roots appears in Webber’s new film that he directed, “Explicit Ills.” He wrote the part for him. Wish someone would have invited us to that. You’d think a small film like that could use all the press it could get. Oh well…

PS. ‘Scott Pilgrim’ creator Bryan Lee O’Malley just twittered at us and said, the filmmakers will be “getting actors to sing their parts if at all possible.” Cool. Brie Larson we hope you can sing 😉
