Joshua Marston made waves back in 2004 with his drug-mule drama "Maria Full Grace" starring Catalina Sandino Moreno but only managed to return to the scene this year with the Albanian-set family drama "The Forgiveness Of Blood." Unfortunately for the director, the biggest headline maker wasn't the film itself but rather the fact it was disqualified from the Foreign Film Oscar race due to eligibility rules.
Unlike the extended break between his first two films, however, it looks like Marston is moving quick, lining up a remake of 2009 Italian film "The Double Hour" as his next writing and directorial project.
Directed by Giuseppe Capotondi, the original followed the sweeping romance between a Slovenian chambermaid and an ex-cop who meet at a speed dating event. Their relationship takes a dark turn, though, when the two go on a romantic getaway at the ex-cop's former employer's holiday home in countryside Turin only for armed intruders to invade and shine a light on each's past.
No word yet on if Marston will continue his run of foreign language films (especially after the Oscar debacles) but the premise certainly sounds like like another potentially compelling story to be explored through Marton's eyes.
This writer caught 'Forgiveness Of Blood' earlier this year and found it to be a "honest and unflinching two-tiered coming-of-ager [and] a unique spin on the family drama genre." Hopefully that one will make its way to U.S. theaters soon. But for now, here's a trailer of the original 'Double Hour.'
