While he’s involved quite a bit in various TV shows and films, writer-director-actor Mark Duplass hasn’t stepped behind the camera to direct a feature in almost a decade. However, that’s expected to change, thanks to the new film, “A Horse Walks Into A Bar.”
According to THR, Duplass has signed on to direct a film based on the novel, “A Horse Walks Into A Bar,” by author David Grossman. The film will tell the story of a stand-up comedian and his life over the course of one night during a comedy set. After words are exchanged between the comedian and the crowd, truths are revealed that could change the lives of everyone involved.

As mentioned, ‘Horse’ is the first feature film from Duplass as a director since 2012’s “The Do-Deca-Pentathlon.” That being said, he has helmed a number of TV episodes for series such as “Room 104” and “Togetherness.” His most known directorial work is on the previous films “Baghead” and “Cyrus.”
In addition to his directorial work, Duplass is probably best known for writing and producing a number of films and TV series such as “Creep,” “Table 19,” “Paddleton,” and “Animals.” He and his brother, Jay Duplass, are two of the biggest names to come out of the indie scene in the past decade or so.
It’s unclear if “A Horse Walks Into A Bar” will be written by Duplass, but given his previous work, you would think that the studio, Village Roadshow, would hope that he would also pen the script. There’s also no mention of when the film might arrive in theaters. But with the recent production delays that have hit the industry, due to COVID-19, it’s unlikely that the new film will find its way in front of cameras anytime soon.
