Mark Hamill Shares Support For Bullied 'Star Wars' Star As Rian Johnson Calls Out "Manbabies"

It appears that all it took to start a war within the “Star Wars” fandom was to erase an Instagram. A couple days ago, we talked about how the months and months of racist and sexist comments had led to “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” actress Kelly Marie Tran to wipe her Instagram clean. We still have yet to hear from the actress, but the action sparked incredible amounts of social media conversation. And that even includes a couple more ‘Last Jedi’ people, as well.

Luke Skywalker, aka actor Mark Hamill, took to Twitter to share a picture of himself with Tran. The message was short and sweet, “What’s not to love? #GetALifeNerds.” Hamill has never been one to shy away from sharing his opinion on social media, and considering the end of ‘The Last Jedi,’ it appears that the actor is done pulling punches when dealing with obnoxious “fans.”

However, the real fire came from ‘Last Jedi’ director Rian Johnson. Since the release of his “Star Wars” film back in December, the director has been subject to his own dose of extreme fan sentiments. Some call him the savior of the franchise, injecting new life in the series, while others say that he’s ruined their entire childhoods and turned their beloved “Star Wars” into a mockery.

You can see why Johnson took to Twitter to voice his concerns to fans about their behavior and to take aim at those toxic people who want to insult members of his cast. “What we talk about when we talk about manbabies,” he began.

After a fan said that Johnson was equating film critique with “trolling,” the director then unleashed by tweeting, “Done with this disingenuous bullshit. You know the difference between not liking a movie and hatefully harassing a woman so bad she has to get off social media. And you know which of those two we’re talking about here.”

When the fan attempted to clarify, Johnson tweeted, “Your ‘implication’ was not an implication at all, it was explicitly stated in your tweet: you’re conflating critiquing a movie with being an abusive asshole to people online, when it’s clear as day they are two seperate things & we’re condemning the latter and not the former.”

As mentioned above, we have yet to hear from Tran herself about the controversy. However, it appears that this discussion is far from over.
