Mark Ruffalo Joins Emma Stone In Yorgos Lanthimos' Upcoming 'Poor Things'

Is there an actor working today that makes better career decisions than Mark Ruffalo? Even when you think something isn’t such a great choice or is a bit mind-boggling, such as when he accepted the role of Bruce Banner (aka The Hulk) in “The Avengers” so soon after Edward Norton rebooted the character, things turn out to work better than anyone could have imagined. And now, he just makes good choice after good choice, with his latest seemingly being the decision to team up with Yorgos Lanthimos for a new feature, “Poor Things.”

According to Collider, Mark Ruffalo is joining the cast of Yorgos Lanthimos’ next feature, “Poor Things.” Ruffalo is set to star opposite Emma Stone in this Victorian reimagining of “Frankenstein.” But no, this isn’t your typical Hollywood horror remake. “Poor Things” is based on the novel by Alasdair Gray and is very much in the wheelhouse of Lanthimos. In “Poor Things,” Stone is set to play Bella Baxter, a woman that is brought back from death using the brain of an infant. As you might expect, this is the type of strange plot that would be perfectly suited to the very unique humor of Lanthimos.

In addition to his aforementioned work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ruffalo recently appeared in the acclaimed film “Dark Waters.” In addition, his next film is an action-comedy with Ryan Reynolds titled, “The Adam Project.” On TV, his most recent project is the acclaimed HBO miniseries, “I Know This Much Is True.” He’s also set to have a guest-starring role in “She-Hulk,” as well as a rumored role in the upcoming HBO series, “Parasite.”

Tony McNamara, who worked with Lanthimos on the award-winning film, “The Favourite,” is set to return to script “Poor Things.” The film is expected to begin production later this year with a 2022 release likely.
