Perhaps best known for the digital series “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” Sony’s Crackle streaming network is still trying to find its footing a landscape dominated by Netflix and Amazon. The service is hoping their next series, “StartUp” will be the breakout hit that puts them on the map. Ahead of its September release, Sony has released a trailer for the series, and it’s filled with sex, guns, and technology with a Miami backdrop.
Mixing equal parts “Breaking Bad” and “Silicon Valley,” “StartUp” tells the story of a crooked FBI agent, played by “Sherlock” star Martin Freeman, as he attempts to take down a tech company formed by three unlikely partners that created a new digital currency called GenCoin. The show also stars Adam Brody, Otmara Marrero, and Edi Gathegi as the financier, coding genius, and gang leader, respectively, who join forces to start the company.
The 10 episode series is going to be offered for free on Crackle’s website and app. “StartUp” is set to release on September 6th.
