Martin McDonagh's 'A Behanding in Spokane'

Pulling our best Jeffrey Wells, since he seems to ask and it generally pays off…

Anyone have an in to Martin McDonagh’s new play “A Behanding in Spokane” currently playing in New York? McDonagh is the genius behind “The Pillowman” (best. play. ever, man — no really) and the director/writer behind “In Bruges.” His eighth play, ‘Spokane’ stars Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell, Anthony Mackie, and Zoe Kazan and is currently on Broadway running until June 6. Broadway is obviously quite expensive. Even a reduced rate would be amazing. http://www.behandinginspokane.com/

“The Pillowman” was easily not only this writer’s single most incredible theater experience ever, it was one of the greatest experiences, period. Riotously funny and acerbically dark and twisted, the New York version starred Billy Crudup, Jeff Goldblum, character actor Željko Ivanek and a then mostly-unknown actor named Michael Stuhlbarg (now known as the star of the Coen brothers’ “A Serious Man,” though admittedly well-regarded on Broadway for some time). Someone must make this into a movie one day, but that’s another story…

We don’t know much about ‘Spokane’ other than it’s another black comedy, which marks the first time one of McDonagh’s plays has been set in the U.S. and is once again directed by John Crowley, who did an astoundingly good job with “The Pillowman.” And honestly we don’t want to know much more. We went in blind to his last play and lord, we were blown away. If you have the means, unlike us, and don’t have to grovel, we highly recommend seeing/reading anything he’s ever written. You can email me here if you’re some kind of angel/good Samaritan, etc.
