Martin Scorsese Confirms Next Film Is 'Killers Of The Flower Moon' With Leonardo DiCaprio Set To Star

It feels like Martin Scorsese has been working on “The Irishman” for years. Oh yeah, it’s because he has. However, that isn’t stopping the legendary filmmaker from lining up his next project. Variety is reporting that Scorsese’s long-in-development film “Killers of the Flower Moon” is set to begin filming in 2019 and he’s bringing on a familiar face for the project.

We last heard that Scorsese wanted to team with Leonardo DiCaprio on ‘Flower Moon’ back in 2017. Since then, there’s been very little word on the project, as the filmmaker has been knee-deep in finishing his highly-anticipated Netflix film “The Irishman.” Now, as that film begins to enter the final stages of post-production (we hope), Scorsese has put together a team to begin scouting locations for ‘Flower Moon’ with an eye to begin filming in summer 2019.

“When I read David Grann’s book, I immediately started seeing it — the people, the settings, the action — and I knew that I had to make it into a movie,” said Scorsese. “I’m so excited to be working with Eric Roth and reuniting with Leo DiCaprio to bring this truly unsettling American story to the screen.”

The unsettling story he refers to is the story around the Osage Nation, which serves as the backdrop of ‘Flower Moon.’ In 1920s Oklahoma, Osage Nation had the richest people per capita in the world, after it was discovered that there was a ton of oil underneath the land. However, the newly-created FBI gets called to find out why the members of Osage Nation began being murdered one-by-one.

As mentioned, Scorsese is tied up with “The Irishman,” but DiCaprio is also busy at the moment on another high-profile project. The Academy Award-winning actor is busy starring in Quentin Tarantino’s newest film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” alongside the best cast perhaps ever assembled for a Tarantino flick.

No word on a release date, and with the delays that have befallen “The Irishman,” it’s far too soon to even speculate when we might see “Killers of the Flower Moon” hit theaters. Fingers crossed for 2020?
