Martin Scorsese's 'Macbeth' Movie With Kenneth Branagh Will Be A Documentary

MacbethFor a while now, talk has been burbling about Martin Scorsese doing something with Kenneth Branagh‘s immersive stage production of "Macbeth," that takes place inches away from the faces of the audience (at least those in the first few rows). It hasn’t been clear what Scorsese and Branagh would do or if it would even happen, but it seems something is percolating and it won’t be quite as cinematic as you might’ve hoped.

The Telegraph reports that the "Macbeth" project will actually be more like a documentary, with Scorsese tracking Branagh and his team as they perform Shakespeare’s work at the Second World War Leavesden Aerodrome. Branagh will reprise the title role, with other cast members to be determined, though the actor is hoping to reunite many of the ensemble he worked with at the original performances of "Macbeth" at the Manchester International Festival in 2013. So basically, a Scorsese concert-style doc but with a play as the central focus? Kinda seems like it.

There’s no word on when this will shoot, but we’d guess not until next year, once Scorsese is done with his currently film, "Silence."
