Back in December, Marvel’s Kevin Feige revealed during a presentation they would be moving forward with a new Disney+ series focusing on the young hero Riri Williams, aka Ironheart, with actress Dominique Thorne set in the role. The comic book heroine is a child genius that becomes an MIT student at age 15 and reverse-engineer’s Iron Man’s armor.
According to a report from Variety, there is an update the “Ironheart” creative team, as Marvel Studios has tapped “Snowpiercer” staff writer Chinaka Hodge as the show’s head writer.
The addition of an armored hero like Riri Williams could hint at a connection to Don Cheadle‘s upcoming “Armor Wars” series about Stark-tech getting into the wrong hands, possibly Sam Rockwell‘s Justin Hammer, like in the comic version of the storyline. With Riri Williams building her very own suit could easily get on the radar of Rhodey and very well could appear if they ultimately want to introduce her there first. Ironheart could also end up becoming a team member of the Young Avengers as the studio has been slowly adding that group’s roster to the Marvel Cinematic Universe on both the big and small screen.
The Hollywood Reporter adds their own tidbit as “Ironheart” will be six episodes long, just like “Falcon & Winter Soldier,” and the writers’ room will begin in May. Now we’ll just have to wait on who’ll direct episodes alongside Dominique’s co-stars, but it’s probably not something we’ll see until mid-2022 at the earliest.
Marvel Studios certainly has their hands full with other shows such as “She-Hulk,” “Moon Knight,” ‘Secret Invasion,” “Armor Wars,” “Echo,” and a “Wakanda” series in various stages of production or development.
