While Marvel has been pretty orderly about their cinematic universe early on, at least one movie fell through the cracks: “Runaways.” The project was one that Joss Whedon was once in the running for prior to landing “The Avengers,” and for a good amount of time, Peter Sollett (“Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” “Raising Victor Vargas”) was attached to direct. However, the movie never got in front of cameras despite a few tentative timelines for filming, and eventually was taken off the slate altogether. But Marvel is ready to finally tackle the property, this time as a TV series.

Deadline reports that Hulu has stepped up and ordered “Marvel’s Runaways” to series, with the project being shepherded by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage of “Gossip Girl” fame (Schwartz was also behind “The O.C.“) So don’t expect something along the same gritty lines of “Daredevil” or “Jessica Jones,” which is just as well, because the source material is lighter, centering around a group of teenagers who discover that their parents are part of an evil crime group called the Pride.
“Marvel’s Runaways” joins the comic-book studio’s ever-expanding slate of television fare, which now includes multiple Netflix shows, ABC‘s “Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” and FX‘s “Legion.” And while it might seem Marvel could start their own network by this point, why bother when everyone around town wants your programming?
