'Marvelous And The Black Hole' Trailer: Sundance Comedy Teams Up A Teenage Delinquent & Surly Magician

The 2022 Sundance Film Festival may have already passed, but let’s not forget about 2021. Some films take a minute to find their feet, find their distributor, and or find a window that best suits that film’s release. Written and directed by Kate Tsang, “Marvelous And The Black Hole” seems to be one of those kinds of movies.

The film stars Miya Cech, Rhea Perlman, Leonard Nam, Paulina Lulu, Kannon Omachi, Jae Suh Park, and Jonathan Salvin. It centers on a teenage delinquent (Cech) who teams up with a surly children’s party magician (Perlman) to navigate her dysfunctional family and inner demons. Here’s the official synopsis:

A teenage delinquent (Miya Cech, ALWAYS BE MY MAYBE) befriends a surly magician (Rhea Perlman, “Cheers,” MATILDA) who helps her navigate her inner demons and dysfunctional family with sleight of hand magic. A coming-of-age comedy that touches on unlikely friendships, grief, and finding hope in the darkest moments.

Tsang is definitely one to watch. She’s an artist, filmmaker, and Emmy-nominated writer creating imaginative, offbeat stories with heart. Her award-winning live-action and animated shorts (“So You’ve Grown Attached” and “Welcome To Doozy“) have been watched by millions online and broadcast nationally on PBS. In addition, Kate has written on the hit shows “Adventure Time: Distant Lands” (HBO MAX) and “Steven Universe Future” (Cartoon Network).
