“Oh, that’s all rumor, man. There’s nothing I know, sorry,” Paul Rudd said last week about his rumored participation in Marvel‘s “Ant-Man.” Fibs? Couldn’t speak to it yet? Well, the “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” actor is apparently now in early talks to play the lead character, presumably Hank Pym (the comics has two different Ant-Men who wore the bit-sized mantle).
Directed by Edgar Wright (“The World’s End,” “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The Universe“), “Ant-Man” was co-written by writer/director Joe Cornish (“Attack The Block“) and has been in development for several years; to the point we’re amazed Marvel actually made the leap to make it. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was also rumored to be in contention for the part, but he’s got “Sandman,” his own super hero movie to contend with now.
A Robert Downey Jr-inspired left-of-center casting choice? (Remember RDJ’s name was mud back then and Jon Favreau had to fight tooth and nail to get him the part). “Ant-Man” shrinks down into theaters on July 31, 2015. [The Wrap]
