The Devil & 2020 Go On A Date In A New Match Ad From The Mind Of Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds has his hands in a lot of different projects nowadays. Yes, he’s off making big-budget films. Even “Deadpool 3,” finally. But he’s also the co-owner of a gin company and a cell phone company. In addition, his production company, Maximum Effort, is also out there trying to poke fun at the awfulness of 2020 in a new ad that Reynolds reportedly had a hand in writing.

As seen in the new ad for Match, we see the Devil, aka Satan, aka Lucifer, trying his hand at online dating. That’s when he meets the future love of his life, 2020. Yes, the year 2020 personified. It’s a wacky ad that is hilarious and ridiculous, both hallmarks of any great Ryan Reynolds project.

“Match is responsible for bringing millions of people together and even in this dumpster fire of a year, people somehow found love on Match,” said Reynolds. “We just imagined what a ‘2020 match’ would look like and this video was the natural, slightly warped result. Also this stuff gives me something to think about during the board meetings.”

Match CMO, Ayesha Gilarde added, “Sometimes you have to make space to laugh. Ryan and the team at Maximum Effort created a story that speaks to this hellish year, while acknowledging the incredible resilience of singles. We can’t wait for the love stories of 2021.”

In addition to the starpower of Ryan Reynolds backing the new ad, music fans will be interested to know the clip is notable for having a new recording of Taylor Swift’s song, “Love Story.” Without getting into the nitty gritty of the battle between Swift and label bigwigs over the rights to her catalog, suffice it to say that the singer-songwriter is in the process of re-recording all of her songs and her new version of “Love Story” is featured in this ad.

You can watch the Match commercial below. And who knows? Maybe 2021 will be a good year for finding true love. If nothing else, you can at least laugh at this ad and not fall into the abyss of doom-scrolling and waiting for the world to end.
