Well, here’s a big vote of confidence from 20th Century Fox. With Matt Reeves gearing up this summer’s “Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes,” it looks like the studio is really liking what they see.
Reeves is now screening his first cut of the highly anticipated sequel for studio suits and they must like what they see as they’ve hired the director back to helm “[TBA] Of The Planet Of The Apes 3.” He will co-write the screenplay with ‘Dawn’ scribe Mark Bomback, and it’s expected the film will be Reeves’ next movie as Fox are eager to keep this franchise going. We dig Reeves and this is certainly shaping up to be one of the more satisfying blockbuster series going with the teaser for ‘Dawn’ certainly getting our attention. So, if we’re going to have an get ‘Apes’ movie every couple of years, at least the next couple will be directed by Reeves.
Meanwhile, the forever developing “Selling Time“—which has been knocking around Hollywood for over a decade—now has D.J. Caruso (“Eagle Eye,” “Disturbia“) at helm. This keeps the momentum going for the project which had Will Smith linked/attached/interested last fall, with the Dan McDermott penned movie centering around a man who cuts seven years off his life so that he can try and fix a tragedy by living it over and over again “Groundhog Day“/”Source Code“/”Edge Of Tomorrow” style. Fun! But this is still a long way from happening with McDermott penning a new draft in the hopes that the super picky Smith likes it enough to do the movie. [Deadline/Empire]
