As a film fan, it’s difficult not to love Matthew McConaughey. He’s truly one of a kind. And it’s that enthusiasm for life and inherent silliness/charm that makes him perhaps the perfect pitch person for how to make a face mask to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Even knowing full well how unique McConaughey is, we didn’t expect him to take this time to workshop a new COVID-19-fighting bounty hunter, Bobby Bandito. But hey, we’re not complaining.
In a recent video posted to Twitter, McConaughey put a spin on the typical COVID-19 pandemic PSA that has been made time and time again by celebrities in the weeks since the virus first began to spread in the US and around the world. Instead of sitting in the comfort of his home and teaching his followers how to make a face mask to wear in public, McConaughey decided to make a PSA from “Bobby Bandito,” a bounty hunter hoping to exterminate coronavirus.
The PSA does show you one easy way to make a face mask, using just cloth, a couple of rubber bands, and a coffee filter, but it’s presented in a way that might confound you and pique your interest in other things. Who is Bobby Bandito? Where did he come from? Why does he hunt pandemics? Does he live in the woods? So many questions, and, frankly, not enough answers.
Will we see Bobby Bandito show up in a future video? Honestly, it would be pretty great, as McConaughey is the type of guy that might just make this into a web series that makes us laugh, cry, and cheer. So, Mr. Bandito, bring it on!
