Matthew Vaughn's 'X-Men: First Class' Trailer Arrives; Much More Somber & Classy Then We Expected

It has arrived. The trailer for “X-Men: First Class” has landed (finally) and as expected, it takes us back to the beginnings of the superheroes charting the origins of Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) as they discover their powers and find their friendship tested.

Thankfully, director Matthew Vaughn has not followed suit with every other comic trailer for that goes hard with effects and explosions, but instead, this one arrives with a quieter tenor, one that quickly establishes the mounting tensions between Charles Xavier and Magneto. Fassbender in particular looks like he’s owning the entire picture but overall, the wait has been worth it. The trailer is a great tease — it introduces us into the world of the fledgling X-Men and gives us enough to be satisfied, but also leaves a lot of questions open and has us wanting more. Great job to Vaughn and co. for making a truly unique, standout spot for the film. We had our doubts, but so far, the film has taken a bold step in the right direction.

“X-Men: First Class” stars Fassbender, McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggert), January Jones (Emma Frost), Oliver Platt (Man In Black), Caleb Landry (Banshee), Lucas Till (Havoc), Edi Gathegi (Darwin), Jason Flemyng (Azazel), Zoe Kravitz (Angel) and Kevin Bacon as the evil Sebastian Shaw. The film hits June 3rd.
