Jim Jarmusch fans, you’re in for a helluva treat, with the director dropping two movies in theaters before the year is out. In December we’ll be getting “Paterson” starring Adam Driver, but first out of the gate is “Gimme Danger,” the filmmaker’s look at the iconic, electric and hugely influential Iggy And The Stooges. And fans of the director and band simply won’t want to miss it.
While you might know the songs “I Wanna Be Your Dog” and “Search and Destroy,” you might not know the story about how four guys came together to create one of the most inimitable, vibrant, ground-breaking and dangerous sounds rock ‘n roll has ever seen. And few know the band better than Jarmusch who gets up close and personal with Iggy Pop and the rest of the band to tell their tale. Here’s the official synopsis from the Cannes Film Festival where the doc premiered earlier this year:
Emerging from Ann Arbor Michigan amidst a countercultural revolution, The Stooges powerful and aggressive style of rock-n-roll blew a crater in the musical landscape of the late 1960s. Assaulting audiences with a blend of rock, blues, R&B, and free jazz, the band planted the seeds for what would be called punk and alternative rock in the decades that followed. Jim Jarmusch’s new film GIMME DANGER chronicles the story of The Stooges, one of the greatest rock-n-roll bands of all time. GIMME DANGER presents the context of the Stooges emergence musically, culturally, politically, historically, and relates their adventures and misadventures while charting their inspirations and the reasons behind their initial commercial challenges, as well as their long-lasting legacy.
“Gimme Danger” opens in New York and Detroit on Oct. 28th and goes nationwide on Nov. 4th.
