Colin Trevorrow and his writing partner, Derrick Connolly, wrote the script for “Intelligent Life,” which tells the story of a United Nations worker who is monitoring outer space and meets a beautiful and mysterious woman, who just may or may not be of this world. Initially, Ava DuVernay was attached to direct with Lupita Nyong’o starring, but with DuVernay working hard on “A Wrinkle in Time,” Amblin has hired Roach to develop the film for producers Steven Spielberg, Trevorrow, Frank Marshall, and Peter Saraf.
With Roach now on board to rewrite and, in all likelihood, direct “Intelligent Life,” Amblin will probably start looking for a new leading actress to get this film in production sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, we’ll have to forever wonder what DuVernay would’ve conjured up.
