Meg Ryan To Direct 'Into The Beautiful'; 'When Harry Met Sally 2' Trailer Lands

It’s been a long, long time since Meg Ryan was the rom-com queen. These days, the field is more or less led by Kate Hudson, Katherine Heigl and Drew Barrymore though none quite have the charm she did back in the day. But it’s been a while since we’ve seen much of Meg Ryan at all with her last major role in the ill-advised 2008 remake “The Women.” But she’s now ready to make her first foray behind the camera.

Variety reports that Ryan is set to direct “Into the Beautiful.” Based on a script by Anne Meredith (“Bastard Out of Carolina,” “Rated X“) plot details are scarce but it’s said to be a “Big Chill“-style story focusing on a group of friends who get back in touch. Should all the pieces come together, filming will begin in New York in September. But, are you just longing for another perfectly tuned film like “When Harry Met Sally“? Well, we’re just as surprised as you, but a trailer for the sequel has already landed.

Starring Billy Crystal and Helen Mirren, the film catches up with Harry Burns who is now considerably older and ends up facing some interesting new relationship challenges. OK, this spoof trailer by Funny Or Die is — for all the comedy talent assembled including Rob Reiner, Adam Scott, Mike Tyson, Rob Riggle and Maya Rudolph — not that funny and kind of tedious, but it does kind of make you wish Mirren would do a rom-com. Check it out.
