Let’s be honest, when you think of the upcoming film “The Meg,” your thoughts inevitably go to an image of star Jason Statham fistfighting the 75-foot shark. What you might not be anticipating is that this action film from director Jon Turteltaub is going to have an amazing score. And in honor of the upcoming release of “The Meg Soundtrack,” we are lucky enough to premiere an exclusive track from the score that will show there’s much more to the film than just Statham punching a megalodon.
The music for “The Meg” comes from Harry Gregson-Williams. For those that aren’t familiar with this award-winning composer, Gregson-Williams is responsible for the scores for a myriad of major films, including “The Chronicles of Narnia” series, “The Martian,” and multiple films with Ben Affleck, such as “Gone Baby Gone,” “The Town,” and “Live by Night.” Needless to say, the music for “The Meg” might be worth the ticket purchase alone.
In the track we’re bringing to The Playlist faithful, “To Our Friends,” you can hear just what Gregson-Williams is bringing to the film. Obviously, considering his extensive list of credits, you can anticipate that the music will be beautiful, but much like the film, the track hits a point where the beauty makes way for excitement and intensity. According to Gregson-Williams, that’s all thanks to the film’s director.
“Working with Jon Turteltaub has been one of the most enjoyable collaborative experiences I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of,” Gregson-Williams said. “He would arrive at my studio bringing with him the unbridled optimism and unique humor that only Jon possesses. He regularly took the time to remind me that the film should always feel fun, exciting, and anticipatory, and encouraged me to direct that positive energy into the music at each step of the process. In the end, I hope I was able to achieve an edge-of-your-seat score that helps the audience to immerse themselves in this dynamic feature film that Jon so masterfully created.”
“The Meg Soundtrack” will hit stores this Friday, August 3, courtesy of WaterTower Music. The film will follow a week later on August 10.
