When you think of actresses that seemed destined for the role of superhero, the top two names on your list probably aren’t Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy. Not that they aren’t talented actresses, as they both combine for 5 Oscar nominations and 1 win. That being said, thanks to a new Netflix project, titled “Thunder Force,” we’re going to see what type of superheroes they will make.
Deadline is reporting that Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy have signed on to star in “Thunder Force,” from filmmaker Ben Falcone. Exact plot details are being kept under wraps (like any good superhero film), but when you combine McCarthy and her frequent collaborator (and real-life husband) Falcone, it’s most likely going to be a comedic affair.
As mentioned, McCarthy and Falcone have quite the filmmaking history together. Falcone has written and directed films with McCarthy as the star for years now, including “Tammy,” “The Boss,” and “Life of the Party.” Not only that, Falcone and McCarthy appear on screen in just about everything together, so it’s likely that the filmmaker will also show up as some sort of side-character in the upcoming “Thunder Force.”
Spencer, on the other hand, doesn’t have the comedic background that McCarthy and Falcone have. She has comedic timing for sure, as she’s shown in a variety of roles, but the Oscar-winning actress is probably best known for her serious dramatic film work in “Hidden Figures,” “The Help,” and “The Shape of Water.”
There’s no release date set, and considering this is a Netflix film, we probably won’t find out when the film is hitting the streaming service until about two weeks before it does. But nevertheless, this looks like another hit film for Netflix and something comedy fans are going to want to check out.
