If you’re a fan of comedy films and you don’t rank the two “21 Jump Street” reboot films as some of the best of the last decade, then you’re absolutely out of your mind. What Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and the directing duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller were able to do with the ridiculous ‘80s TV series is nothing short of brilliant, and has led to many, many copycats. So, when the original idea for a ‘Jump Street’ crossover with “Men in Black” was floated around in recent years, after the confusion and shock wore off, comedy fans were elated. Let’s see what these guys can do! Well, it appears the dreams of Jenko and Schmidt joining the alien police force seems truly dead.

Speaking to Empire Magazine (via Yahoo), one of the producers of the “Men in Black” franchise put an end to any speculation that Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum were ever going to put on the sunglasses and black suits. Producer Walter Parkes said, “We gave it a shot. It turned out to be an impossible match-up.”
The writing has been on the wall for years about the project being shelved. Once excited about the prospects, those involved in the ‘Jump Street’ films, including Lord, Miller, and Hill, had quelled any excitement by seemingly pointing out the difficulty of bringing the franchises together.
And the prospect of a new ‘Jump Street’/’MIB’ franchise was really thrown for a loop when Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson were hired to take on a new reboot of the ‘MIB’ franchise, which is being released later this year. Still, hope remained as that film went into production because there was still the chance that ‘Jump Street’ could tag along eventually.
However, later in 2018, it was revealed that Sony was looking at Tiffany Haddish and Awkwafina to bring a new female flavor to the ‘Jump Street’ franchise with a brand-new iteration of the film series. And now, with Parkes confirming the news, it would appear that once and for all, the dreams of the world’s weirdest comedy crossover are truly done.

Well, as we process this sad news, we can always take a look at the upcoming ‘MIB’ reboot titled “Men In Black International,” which has some new photos and information being released, courtesy of EW.
Hemsworth talks about how this version of “Men in Black” differs from previous films by saying he see it as “a sort of reinvention, an opening up of the original franchise that aesthetically is a lot different. Like the geography of this one, we’re not just in New York — we’re in Istanbul, Italy, London.”
Parkes says, “I think the biggest difference [in this story] is that this time the enemy is within. MIB has been compromised from inside, which leads them on a globe-trotting adventure to discover the true nature of the threat.”
“Men in Black International” arrives in theaters on June 14.
