Michael Bay Reunites With 'Transformers' Writer To Bring Plenty Of Guns & Explosions To Sony In The Upcoming Film 'Black Five'

It’s the reunion you have all been waiting for. Director Michael Bay is teaming up with writer Ehren Kruger once again for a brand-new action film. You may recognize the duo’s previous collaborations, as they created the middle three films in the ‘Transformers’ franchise. So yeah, high quality is expected with their new film.

All sarcasm aside, THR is reporting that Bay is set to direct a new film titled “Black Five” for Sony. In a not-so-shocking turn of events, “Black Five” is described as an action ensemble film, which we know is the filmmaker’s bread and butter. As mentioned, he’s reteaming with Kruger, who penned the script for “Black Five” and previously worked with Bay on the ‘Transformers’ films ‘Revenge of the Fallen,’ ‘Dark of the Moon,’ and ‘Age of Extinction.’

Bay is currently putting the finishing touches on his upcoming Netflix action film “Six Underground.” That film stars Ryan Reynolds and is said to be one of the most expensive films that the streaming service has ever produced, up there with the Will Smith film “Bright.” Considering Netflix’s spotty record when it comes to blockbusters, combined with Bay’s penchant for ditching logic and plot in favor of his patented Bayhem, let’s just say that our expectations are pretty low.

One interesting wrinkle to the story about this new film is that “Black Five” is being developed as a film, as well as a video game, concurrently. No details about how the game will tie into the film or where you might be able to find the finished product, but this is the sort of thing that happened more commonly in decades past and is relatively unheard of today. We’re going to go out on a limb and say that the video game will include plenty of guns and explosions.

No release date has been set for “Black Five,” but it’s expected that production will begin after “Six Underground” is finished.
