Michael Bay Squashes Beef With Guillermo Del Toro & Apologizes For 'Armageddon,' Says Studio Took It Away From Him

nullSo, remember last week when it looked like an epic beef was developing between Micheal Bay and Guillermo Del Toro, when the former offhandedly commented on movies that were riping off “Transformers” (but didn’t name “Pacific Rim” specifically) and the latter dissed the Hasbro movies for being slick car commercials? Well, it’s all cool bro as Bay has officially weighed in on the matter and chastised the trades on his website for pulling a CNN and taking a leap of logic with his comments.

“I was talking about another movie, at another studio that will remain nameless, while I spoke at CinemaCon in Vegas this Monday,” he wrote on his website, emphasizing he had no quarrel or problems with Del Toro. “I love how reporters put false words in people’s mouths without doing their proper research. Well ’cause of that sloppy reporting, I thought Guillermo was mad at me, and he thought I was mad at him. We both exchanged calls today and realized nobody was mad at anybody except we were both mad at that reporter!” So there you go, Bay and Del Toro are totes bros.

And it seems that Bay is in a setting-the-record-straight frame of mind, as he’s taken some time in an interview to say he’s sorry about “Armageddon,” his mega smash, Aerosmith-powered, flag waving blockbuster for not being as Bay-ified as it could been.

“I will apologize for ‘Armageddon,’ because we had to do the whole movie in 16 weeks. It was a massive undertaking. That was not fair to the movie. I would redo the entire third act if I could,” he told the Miami Herald. “But the studio literally took the movie away from us. It was terrible. My visual effects supervisor had a nervous breakdown, so I had to be in charge of that. I called James Cameron and asked ‘What do you do when you’re doing all the effects yourself?’ But the movie did fine.”

And while Bay’s success has undoubtedly given him for elbow room when calling the shots for his films, he’s busier than ever not just as a director, but also a producer and that’s not to mention that just as he puts “Pain & Gain” to bed this weekend when it hits theaters, he’ll have to gear up to shoot “Transformers 4” for next summer. Dude could use a breather and he’s thinking about it.

“I want to chill out for a little bit,” he told the New York Times. “I think. Smell the flowers a little bit. I wish I would read more. I used to be a huge reader. It’s just — life gets too busy.” Bay kicking back with a book is quite the unexpected image, but we presume even then, explosions are involved in some capacity.
