It looks like Michael Caine is taking some time between helping out Batman in "The Dark Knight Rises" and hanging with magicians in "Now You See Me" to soak up some French culture.
The actor is teaming with Clémence Poésy ("127 Hours," "In Bruges"), Justin Kirk ("Weeds"); legendary four-time Oscar nominee Jane Alexander ("All The President's Men," "Kramer Vs. Kramer"), Anne Alvaro ("The Diving Bell and the Butterfly") and everyone's fave member of "The X-Files" Gillian Anderson for "Mr. Morgan's Last Love." Based on the novel “La Douceur Assassine” by Françoise Dorner, and adapted and directed by Sandra Nettlebeck, the story centers a retired, lonely American widower (Caine; why they couldn't make him a Brit we suppose will be explained somehow) whose chance encounter with a free-spirited and vibrantly naive, beautiful young French woman touches his heart and brightens and changes his life.
We're of two minds about this. It sounds like a nice little Euro confection that will go down easy. But our concern is Nettlebeck, whose previous effort, the depression drama "Helen" starring Ashley Judd, was frankly dreadful. And her tastes tend to run pretty broad in not the best way either (her film "Mostly Martha" became "No Reservations" stateside). So we'll see how this plays out, but all that said, the cast here is pretty great.
Filming is now underway on the project in Paris.
