For fans of the “Alien” franchise, Ridley Scott‘s “Prometheus” was a lot of things, and few were very good. Many found the characterizations frustrating and the story not particularly compelling, and perhaps worst of all, the fear that was embedded in the original 1979 film was largely absent in the prequel. Sure, there was Noomi Rapace‘s abortion sequence, but that was more hair-raisingly harrowing than terrifying. But the good news is that the followup “Alien: Covenant” should easily send sweat down your spine.

Michael Fassbender, who returns as David, is promising the next chapter will increase the scares as the narrative continues to thread its way toward “Alien.”
“I’m very excited to see it, and everybody in the film was saying this is a film that we all want to see. It’s much scarier than ‘Prometheus,’ but it’s got the same sort of scope of ‘Prometheus.’ It’s kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that ‘Alien’ had, so it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films,” the actor told Collider. “Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn’t let up. It’s really going to bring chills to the cinema.”
Okay, that’s a strong recommendation, but let’s just hope it’s an overall better film than “Prometheus” to start.
“Alien: Covenant” opens on August 4th.
