Bummer! Though once mooted for the lead role that eventually went to Jamie Foxx, Quentin Taraninto has long had his eye on Michael K. Williams (aka Omar from "The Wire") for a role in "Django Unchained." The actor himself chatted up the prospect of starring in the movie, saying earlier this year that the director was writing a part for him and following that up shortly thereafter with the tease that his participation looked "good to go." But a long time has past since, with a ton of casting along the way and unfortunately, Williams won't be in the film.
Deadline reports that while he was being eyed for a part as muscle for Leonardo DiCaprio's villainous Calvin Candie, scheduling with the third season of "Boardwalk Empire" just couldn't be worked out and the role and his participation have been scrapped. Yes, the cast for "Django Unchained" is pretty amazing as it is, but Williams is one of our favorites and it's truly a disappointment he won't be able to take part in the picture. But he has found time to book another movie when he's away from being Chalky White.
Williams has joined the cast of "Snitch," the Dwayne Johnson vehicle about a suburban dad whose son is sentenced to thirty years in prison thanks to draconian minimum drug sentencing laws. In order to get his son out earlier, he decides to go undercover and help bust a major drug dealer. He joins the cast that includes Susan Sarandon, Barry Pepper and the recently cast "The Walking Dead" star Jon Bernthal in a role where he plays his standard bit part of a drug dealer with *gasp* a short temper.
