Light the fuse. Grab your gum. Maybe go for a run for miles on end, for it’s time for another addition of The Playlist Podcast, a discussion about film, television, pop culture, and any other pertinent items we feel are worth discussing. On this episode, I’m joined by fellow Playlister Oktay Ege Kozak to discuss “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” the sixth entry in the 22-year series, and the first entry to be helmed by a returning director (Christopher McQuarrie is back after “M:I – Rogue Nation“).
Both of us are fans of the series (with Oktay also being a big fan of the TV series that spawned them), and are overall positive on “Fallout,” but there might be one of us who isn’t as quite as high on the film as the other. Typically, we have a spoiler section for our reviews, but we decided against it for this episode, for this is a “Mission: Impossible” movie after all, and the strongest aspects are purely experiential. Don’t worry, we don’t spoil anything about the film.
On the latter half of the episode, and the true meat of our discussion, is our countdown of the Top 5 “M:I” action set pieces. The practical action sequences – traditionally with Tom Cruise doing all of his own stunts – has been the lifeblood of this entire series. With so many great moments to choose from, we had an excellent time going down memory lane and discussing the sequences that push our pulses past the danger zone.
