Given the focus and attention on “Arrested Development” over the past many, many years, you might be shocked to learn that a) creator Mitch Hurwitz has done lots of other projects outside the Bluth family (just check IMDb) and b) he’s never directed a feature. And now he’s ready to tick both those boxes with a new project that doesn’t involve the words Gob, George Michael, Maebe, Buster, Lucille, Tobias and Michael.
Rather, they involve the names of writing team Tom Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (“Night At The Museum“) who have penned the movie “Guinea Pigging,” which Hurwitz will direct. Based on a 2008 New Yorker article by Carl Elliott (read it in full right here), the story will follow someone who does human drug testing for a living and experiences unusual and probably very wacky side effects. It all seems right in Hurwitz’s wheelhouse of human yet oddball stories, and a good place for him to make this directorial debut.
So, we’ll see how this develops, but until then, might as well keep asking him about “Arrested Development” and when the Bluths will be back. [THR]
