It seems HBO MAX is no longer the only streaming service with its own animated show based on comicbook villains. The first teaser for Hulu and Marvel Studios‘ stop-motion “MODOK” series is here to make irreverent and very R-rated jokes about the Marvel universe.

Co-created by Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum, “MODOK” is one of the few surviving Marvel shows on Hulu. Originally, it was announced that Marvel Studios was going to make a ton of shows for the streaming service, including one based on Howard the Duck, but now it’s basically just this one and “Helstrom.”
The teaser shows Patton Oswalt as the titular MODOK, or Mental/Mobile/Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing, as he tries to keep his villainous organization, AIM, afloat through some financial difficulties. The teaser really does look like Marvel’s answer to “Robot Chicken,” both in terms of the style of humor and the use of stop-motion animation.
One neat thing in the teaser is that it seems the show will use handheld cameras in an almost “Modern Family” or “The Office” style mockumentary, which is rare for a stop-motion project, but not unwelcomed.

The teaser debuted during a 2020 New York Comic Con panel, where Oswalt talked about Marvel being “very open” to letting them use all kinds of characters and ideas from the entire Marvel universe, including from the X-Men comics.
“MODOK” doesn’t currently have a release date.
