'Monsters University' The Official Title For The 'Monsters Inc.' Followup

Steve Buscemi Is Back As Baddie Randall Boggs

The theater owners convention CinemaCon has provided a slow trickle of news this week, but Pixar takes the lead on the biggest bit of info to come out of the industry confab: they now have a title for their “Monsters Inc.” followup.

During their presentation in Las Vegas for the event, Pixar revealed the title for their new adventure into Mike and Sully’s world is “Monsters University.” And while the trades have claimed that the story details are being kept under wraps, for those who have been paying attention, the title affirms the direction of the plot that was revealed earlier this year.

In fact, if it holds true, “Monsters University” won’t be a sequel, but a prequel, instead with Mike and Sully both enrolled at the University of Fear, telling the story of how they start off as enemies but soon become friends. The being said, there were also strong rumors knocking about that the film would actually pick up on the characters twenty years later with Boo grown up with a daughter. But it pretty much seems that all signs are pointing to a film that will tell the story of the two protagonists before they became door hopping employees of the scare factory.

“Monsters University” will hit in 2012 and though no release date is set, we presume it will be fourth quarter holiday season release as Pixar has “Brave” planting a flag on June 22, 2012. [THR]
