On their own, John C. Reilly, Fred Armisen, and Tim Heidecker are three of the funniest people in the film and TV industry. However, you could argue that the three of them have distinct and disparate comedic styles, with Armisen best known for his sketch work on ‘SNL,’ Heidecker for his satirical, wacky stylings on Adult Swim, and Reilly with his slapstick in films like “Step Brothers.” But the three forces collide with a mission to go to the moon in the upcoming Showtime series, “Moonbase 8.”

In the trailer for “Moonbase 8,” we’re introduced to three astronauts that are desperate to be chosen by NASA for a mission to the moon. Each of them has their own reasons for wanting to become heroic space adventurers, but they all share a common lack of skill and credibility. And as you might expect, their attempts to gain the knowledge and abilities to venture off-planet is where the comedy kicks in.
As mentioned, the series stars Armisen, Heidecker, and Reilly in the lead roles. The comedy series is co-created by all three men, alongside Jonathan Krisel. Krisel is a TV comedy veteran, serving as a writer, producer, and director on a number of acclaimed series, such as “Portlandia,” “Baskets,” and the various ‘Tim & Eric’ series/films.
“Moonbase 8” is set to premiere on Showtime on November 8. You can watch the trailer for the series below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Set in the isolated desert of Winslow, Arizona at NASA’s Moon Base Simulator, MOONBASE 8 follows eager astronauts Skip (Fred Armisen), Rook (Tim Heidecker) and their leader Cap (John C. Reilly) as they attempt to qualify for their first lunar mission.
