When Mark Wahlberg isn’t saying “hello” to mothers, he’s preventing them from pummeling Amy Adams, or so we gather from one of the clips (featured below) that was recently released (via /Film) for David O. Russell’s upcoming “The Fighter.”
And yes, it’s pretty much is what it sounds like. Wahlberg prevents some white trash Boston chicks (check out their hair) from beating Amy Adams’ ass. It’s pretty interesting stuff. Also, several new pictures (though some that you have seen) of Wahlberg in action and another behind the scenes clip of the planning of a boxing match were released as well.
“The Fighter,” one of our most anticipated films of 2010, tells the true story of fighter “Irish” Mickey Ward’s (Wahlberg) rise to prominence in the ’80s and ’90s and his half-brother Dicky Eklund (Christian Bale) a former boxer turned Ward’s manager after battling a life of drug addiction and crime. Amy Adams plays a gritty bartender who acts as love interest to Wahlberg and Melissa Leo (“Frozen River”) plays the boys’ mother. Our friend Alison Folland (“To Die For”) also has a small role in the picture as well.
It’s been a long time coming for this project, we know, we first reported on it back in 2008 when the film was still being directed by Darren Aronofsky and then starred Brad Pitt (Matt Damon was also attached way back in the day). Through numerous setbacks and reports of some minor difficulties on the David O. Russell set (a bit de rigueur at this point) “The Fighter” has shown (wait for it) great heart and has taken its licks in stride.
Based on the pictures and clips we are still as excited as we were when we included the film on our 75+ Most Anticipated films of 2010 list.
No official release date for “The Fighter” as of yet, but speculation on the net has it being released sometime around Thanksgiving 2010 which makes total sense since the picture already has a U.K. release date of November 26. “The Fighter” recently underwent “reshoots” which were really more of a break so Wahlberg could pack on the pounds to play the pugilist later in life (for what we assume is the denouement).
There’s one clip below and you can watch three more over at the Rogue Pictures website many of which are Wahlberg in boxing training and O. Russell planning out the dynamics of a particular fight scene (“Bam, bam, bam, dig what I’m saying?” We love the guy, but there’s no denying he’s kooky) — Ben Webster
